Essentially, astrology is the belief that stars and planets have an influence on people’s lives – and that the position of these cosmic objects at the time of a person’s birth can tell us much about their personality and future lives. Many dismiss astrology as a pseudoscience but there are plenty of people who believe in it – just look at how many newspapers and magazines carry a regular horoscope section. If our star sign can help us to understand ourselves and what our fates may have in store for us, it’s a natural progression to believe that it could be a powerful tool in helping us decide on a career. A career horoscope seeks to help people to find a role or career path best suited to them, by identifying the key characteristics associated with their star sign and how these might translate into the workplace. When most people think of their star sign, they are referring to sun sign astrology, which considers the position of the sun in one of twelve zodiac signs at the time of their birth. This is the simplest form of astrology and the one on which newspaper horoscopes are generally based. It is what we will be using for our career horoscopes later in this article. For a more detailed reading, astrologers look at several elements, such as which sign each planet was in at the time of birth. These are known as birth charts and there are a number of websites where you can enter your details to create your own – such as Cafe Astrology. All of us will encounter times in our lives when we are unsure about what to do with our careers. You may be just starting out in the world of work and feeling bewildered by the choice of paths you could pursue. Or perhaps you are beginning to feel restless in your current role or have reached a dead end and know that you are ready for a change, without any clear idea of what that change might be. Consulting your career horoscope won’t necessarily give you the answers, but it will provide an opportunity to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, what you’re passionate about and what you want out of life. A career horoscope may have a very loose relationship with any kind of real science, but you might be surprised by how much of yours rings true. And recognizing who you are and what you’re good at is an important step in finding a career where you will flourish.

Final Thoughts

A career horoscope may not be the most reliable or logical way to find a job. But if astrology does speak to you, then it can at least be a useful starting point to reflect on your personality and what you want from a future career. And that can only be a positive thing.
